To mark International Women’s Day on March 8th, the Montreal branch of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and radio Artists (ACTRA) is proud to recognize the contributions of Jennifer Seguin, naming her the 2025 ACTRA Montreal Woman of the Year.

Jennifer has been an integral part of Montreal’s acting community for over 40 years, with a vast career spanning many different aspects of showbiz; she is well-known to many as a comedian, actor, writer, director, teacher, and mentor, as well as a beloved friend and inspiring colleague. Her willingness to offer help and to provide support for her community is unparalleled.

Graduating with a BFA from Concordia University in Montreal, Jennifer quickly discovered the world of animation and dubbing voice work. She has recorded hundreds of projects since the 1980’s, crediting animation for strengthening her giggle muscles and video games for strengthening her screaming muscles. In the 1990s and 00s, she flexed her comedy muscles in the award-winning improv troupe On the Spot, which took her around the world in international competitions and earned her a Canadian Comedy Award nomination. She co-wrote and directed season 1 of “Radio Active,” a YTV sitcom. Some of her television work includes “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”, “Seriously Weird,” and, more recently, “Mohawk Girls,” “The Moodys,” and “Transplant.” In film, she has worked with international celebrities and crews, but always promotes and upholds local talent with love and pride.

As a voice director and mentor, Jennifer has been instrumental in helping many new performers into successful careers, going out of her way to support people by donating time and energy to helping them evolve and transform in their work. Jennifer often vouches for actors by calling agencies and studios with recommendations; she provides valuable insights into vocal techniques and performance details that can bring out the best in each actor in her courses and private mentorship; she also provides support when the inevitable ebbs and flows of our industry take their toll, and is a loving, committed friend. She is also a staunch union supporter and an advocate for equality on set, sending up for performers’ rights and speaking up when others cannot.

Jennifer is a creative genius, a singularly talented artist and a true helper in every sense of the word. Her selflessness, kindness and empathy make her one of the most unique people in our city, and in our union. We are so very lucky to have her as our Woman of The Year this year, and every year!
