Audition Techniques for Marginalized Performers
With the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic, self-tape auditions have become more and more prevalent. As a result, performers are required to rely on their own skills and instincts without guidance from a casting director/session runner. Additionally, the art of auditioning is a unique skill that differs from performance. Many actors are talented performers but lack confidence in auditions. Marginalized performers often experience a greater disadvantage, as they are given less opportunities to audition or perform on camera.
This workshop aims to offer concrete knowledge and guidance about the art of auditioning. It will focus on providing marginalized performers with the skills and confidence they need to submit a great self-tape, or give a great performance in the room.
This workshop will focus on how to understand a casting breakdown and related instructions, how to analyze and break down sides, how to memorize and prepare, how to make a good first impression in the room, technical skills; such as eye line placement and body alignment in the camera, connecting with your reader, do’s and don’ts, and more.
The workshop will culminate with a live audition session, with local casting directors in attendance.
