Protect yourself against infectious diseases

Another preventive communication, this time with a focus on infectious diseases, as the new season is approaching.
Working on a set or in a studio comes with a higher risk of transmitting infectious diseases. We are often forced to be closely to others and to share equipment and limited space. Bacteria are transmitted either by direct contact, indirect contact (through a contaminated surface), or through the air.
What are the risks of exposure to these diseases?
- Rapid infection, which may affect the effectiveness of treatment and care
- Respiratory problems
- Cardiovascular problems
- In some cases, death
What symptoms should we watch out for?
- Fever, chills: indicate that the immune system is fighting an infection
- Coughing, sneezing: common symptoms of infection that cause droplets that can transmit the infection
- Headache and/or body aches: common symptoms that interfere with normal functioning
- Rashes and skin changes: often seen in infections such as measles, chickenpox, and hand, foot, and mouth disease
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea: signs of infection of the digestive system
- Unusual fatigue: a warning sign of several infections
- Decreased alertness and coordination: symptoms often caused by infection. Increase the risk of accidents in the workplace.
What measures should be taken to protect yourself?
- Respiratory protection: Wearing a tight-fitting mask (such as an N95) reduces the risk of infection and airborne transmission.
- Hand washing: Reduces the risk of infection and transmission through direct and indirect contact.
- Disinfection: An effective way to reduce spread through indirect contact (especially surfaces, door handles, and frequently handled equipment).
- Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation to reduce the amount of potential infectious agents.
- Vaccination: Know your vaccination status for each disease and get vaccinated if necessary.
- Isolation: If infected, avoid exposure to contact with individuals or surfaces
- Elbow pit: Cough and sneeze in a way that reduces the projection of particles into the air
- Public Health: Refer to the advice and guidelines issued by public health services, particularly in the event of an epidemiological crisis.
What should you do if you have symptoms of an infectious disease?
- Contact a healthcare professional or go to your pharmacist to get the necessary treatment.
- Protect others by taking the necessary measures mentioned above (wear a mask, disinfect your hands before touching surfaces and equipment, etc.), but also keep your distance from others as much as possible. For intimate scenes, please notify the production team to see if they can change the date of the scene or make additional adjustments or preventive measures.
- If you are not in a condition to work, be prepared to obtain a medical certificate in case the producer requests it.
