Montreal, October 8th 2026 – ACTRA Montreal, the Union representing professional performers working in Quebec’s English-Language audiovisual industry, congratulates Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and the Parti Québécois on forming the new provincial government. We congratulate all candidates who participated in this closely contested election and recognize the tremendous commitment demonstrated throughout the campaign.

We look forward to working constructively with the new Premier St-Pierre Plamondon’s government to strengthen Quebec’s audiovisual industry, create sustainable opportunities for performers working in English and other creative professionals.

The English-language audiovisual sector is an important contributor to Quebec’s economy and cultural landscape, supporting thousands of artists, technicians and creative professionals across Quebec. Yet the sector continues to face significant challenges, including a decline in English-language productions, increased competition with other provinces and internationally, and production incentives that must remain competitive to attract and retain productions in Quebec.

ACTRA Montreal recently submitted a brief with its observations and recommendations for the audiovisual sector to the outgoing government’s Minister of Finance. Some of the recommendations include unifying Quebec’s domestic production tax-credit rate for all eligible productions, eliminating the current language-based split; maintaining or increasing the service production tax credit, improving the regional tax credit and making it more accessible for both domestic and service productions as well as expanding eligible labour for dubbing under the tax credit so that it better reflects the way labour is treated in “live action” productions.

“ACTRA Montreal congratulates Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and The Parti Québécois on forming the new government. We look forward to working with the new administration to ensure that Quebec remains a place where performers can build careers, where our diverse cultural stories can be told, and where productions – both local and international – can find the talent and conditions they need to thrive. A healthy audiovisual industry benefits not only performers, but the entire cultural and economic ecosystem of Quebec.” – Simon Peacock, ACTRA Montreal’s President.
