Provincial elections: what you need to know

Dear ACTRA Montreal members,

The English Audio-Visual industry contributes over $1 Billion a year to Quebec’s economy and supports thousands of talented artists, technicians and creative professionals – not to mention the economic boon to Montreal and the regions. Yet our sector continues to face significant challenges, including reduced investment in video games and VFX, increasing competition from other Canadian provinces and international markets who offer more attractive production incentives, as well as strict language laws that have unnecessarily scared off many American Productions.

These challenges affect all of us. English-Language productions are an essential part of Quebec’s cultural identity and creative economy, and they provide opportunities that benefit artists and crews across both English and French communities. Many professionals work seamlessly between both sectors, and a thriving industry strengthens the province as a whole. Protecting and investing in all of Quebec’s creative talent means recognizing that every story, every artist, and every production contributes to our shared success.

Every single ACTRA member has a role in protecting our industry and choosing the right people to defend it. I urge you to make sure our voices are heard by voting in the upcoming provincial elections.

Over the upcoming weeks, ACTRA Montreal will be sharing answers to some key questions we will be asking parties to understand their stance when it comes to our industry, and to help you make an informed decision.
