This workshop is about mastering one of the most critical – and potentially dangerous – tools on set: firearms. Whether you are working with blanks, replicas, or prop firearms, understanding how to handle them safely and convincingly is a vital requirement for any stunt performer.  

In this practical workshop, you will learn about the handling and use of firearms on film sets. It’s a practical session offering stunt performers, not only access to expert weapon advice, but also the opportunity to get hands-on experience by practicing situations involving firearms.  

By taking this extended version of the workshop, you will acquire basic knowledge and presentation of all firearms and prohibited firearms used on a film or television set. This knowledge will enable you to understand the safety protocols for each category of weapon and understand the dangers and risks associated with handling and firing each type of weapon: semi-automatic firearms, revolvers, hunting rifles, and fully automatic firearms.

Learning objectives 

• Have a better understanding of the different types or firearms and their main components.
• Acquire the best practices in the safe handling (Carrying, pointing, walking and running) of firearms according to different standards: police, SWAT, military, etc. 
• Run through on set scenarios to put into practice the handling of firearms under “stress”.

• Must be an active member of ACTRA Montreal (Full member) with at least 3 stunt credits (a few spots are available for members with one or two stunt credits).

Instructors

Brent Radford 

For 25 years Brent has worked across North America as an Armorer, Tactical Consultant and Weapons Supervisor on Television and Film productions. He learned from legendary Armorer Danny Sprague – Heat, Terminator and Terminator 2 as well as Mike Papac, the Key armorer on Predator and the Die-Hard films. 

He has trained Police, Security and Military organizations in Firearms handling and Judgement Training policies. He has trained with SEAL’s, Delta’s, British S.A.S, U.S Army Rangers, British 2Para Units and recently with the MUC Tactical team leader. 

Kevin Kelsall 

Kevin is a stunt coordinator, a stunt performer, and a fight choreographer. He started doing Martial Arts in 1996 with Hapkido and Muay Thai, and then with Kali and Kajukenbo. He started his stunt career in 2000 on the show Largo Winch, and 25 years later, his portfolio includes numerous productions: X-Men:Days of Future Past, The Fountain and Moonfall, to name a few.
